How much does an SF City Hall wedding photographer cost?

I offer four packages so you can pick the coverage that fits your day: Quick Ceremony ($350, 30 minutes, ceremony plus a brief portrait moment at your favorite City Hall floor), Essential ($575, 90 minutes, plus portraits at the 4th Floor Gallery and Grand Staircase), Signature ($750, 2 hours, my most-booked option, portraits across City Hall's most iconic locations), and Adventure ($1,200, 2.5 hours, City Hall plus a second SF location). A $150 retainer secures your date on any package.

How much does it cost to actually get married at City Hall (license + ceremony)?

As of 2026, the marriage license is $127 and the standard civil ceremony is $111 — about $238 total before photography. If you'd like a private ceremony on the Mayor's Balcony or 4th Floor Gallery instead of the public Rotunda, that runs $1,200 for a one-hour reservation through the City Hall Events Department.

How many guests are allowed at a City Hall wedding?

Standard civil ceremonies are limited to 6 people total — and that count includes your photographer, witness, and any children, not just guests. This limit is strictly enforced. If you're hoping for more guests, a private one-hour ceremony (Mayor's Balcony or 4th Floor) allows up to 100 guests.

Do you offer bilingual service?

Yes — I photograph and communicate fluently in both English and Español throughout the entire process, from your first inquiry to your wedding day, at no extra charge.

How soon will we see our photos?

You'll receive a sneak peek of a few images within 24–48 hours of your ceremony, with your full gallery delivered shortly after through a private online gallery you can download and share freely.

Do we own the rights to our photos?

Yes. Every package includes full reproduction rights with no watermarks, so you're free to print, share, and use your images however you'd like.

How far in advance should we book?

City Hall ceremony appointments open 90 days in advance and popular dates — especially Fridays — can fill up within minutes. I'd recommend reaching out as soon as you have a date in mind, since I only take one wedding per day and dates go quickly.

What should we wear or bring?

Wear whatever makes you feel like yourselves — City Hall's architecture pairs beautifully with everything from formal gowns to simple everyday outfits. Bring your marriage license, valid photo ID for both of you, and a witness if you're using a public license.

Can we do photos at another SF location the same day?

Absolutely — my Adventure package includes coverage at a second San Francisco location beyond City Hall, like the Golden Gate Overlook or Baker Beach, so you can round out your gallery with more of the city.

Do you photograph weekday and weekend City Hall weddings?

Yes, both — though weekday ceremonies tend to be quieter and more relaxed, with fewer tourists and other wedding parties sharing the building, if that's something you'd prefer.

Do I need a photography permit for City Hall wedding photos?

No — a standard photography permit is not required for wedding photography at City Hall. If you're planning something beyond typical ceremony and portrait coverage, it's worth checking with the City Hall Events Department directly, but for everything included in my packages, no permit is needed.

Where and when do we meet you on the wedding day?

I typically meet you about 15 minutes before your ceremony time near the Grand Staircase on the first floor, so I can help you get oriented, answer any last-minute questions, and start capturing candid moments before the ceremony even begins.

What's the best time of day for City Hall wedding photos?

Late morning tends to offer the most beautiful natural light through City Hall's arched windows, especially on the upper floors. If you have flexibility when booking your ceremony appointment, I'm happy to help you choose a time that gives us the best light for your photos.

City Hall is a public building — will strangers end up in our photos?

City Hall does stay open to tourists and other events during your ceremony, so it's a fair thing to wonder about. I work to frame around crowds and time shots between passersby as much as possible, so your gallery feels intentional and focused on the two of you.

Do you photograph multicultural and interfaith ceremonies?

Yes — I've had the honor of photographing Hindu, South Asian, Latino, interfaith, and many other multicultural ceremonies at City Hall. Every tradition and family is welcome, and I'd love to hear about your ceremony's specific customs ahead of time so I can capture what matters most to you.

Can my photographer serve as our witness?

Yes — I'm happy to serve as your witness if you're using a public marriage license and don't have one lined up. It's something I've done for couples before, and I'm honored to help however I can on your day.

Is parking available near City Hall?

Yes — the Civic Center Plaza Garage and the Performing Arts Garage are both a short walk from City Hall and are the most convenient options if you're driving in.

How many floors does San Francisco City Hall have?

City Hall has four main floors, plus the ground-level entrance. The 1st floor holds the Rotunda and the base of the Grand Staircase, the 2nd floor is where the staircase leads up to the Mayor's office and Board of Supervisors chambers, and the 3rd and 4th floors open onto balconies that circle the Rotunda from above — the 4th Floor Gallery is one of my favorite spots for portraits, with beautiful natural light and a striking view straight down into the dome.

Can we bring our own officiant?

Yes — if you're having a private ceremony on the Mayor's Balcony or 4th Floor, you'll need to bring your own officiant (or a friend or family member registered as a one-day deputy marriage commissioner). If you don't have one lined up yet, I'm happy to connect you with officiants I've personally worked with and trust for City Hall ceremonies.
